Most Perfect is the Law of God

Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your law is truth. Psalm 119:42

The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting. Psalm 119:160

Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. John 17:17

I am so thankful for God’s word. In it, He has given us everything we need for life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3) We have direction and instruction for how to live, how to act, and how to become more like Jesus. We receive encouragement from the Word, and by immersing ourselves in it, we learn more about God and His son.

This post can certainly not exhaust all that the Word does for us, but I hope it starts you thinking about the beauty of God’s truth and what it means to you. Take a moment to meditate on this short list of what we have from God’s word:

Words of eternal life (John 6:68)
Faith from hearing, and hearing from the Word (Romans 10:17)
Sanctification through the washing of the water with the Word (Eph. 5:26)
Protection from sin (Psalm 119:11)
Hope through the encouragement of the Scriptures (Romans 15:4)

God has provided us with His word so that we may know His truth and His law. And look what His law does for us: it restores our soul, makes wise the simple, rejoices the heart, enlightens the eyes!

The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. Psalm 19:7-8

Are you hungry for God’s truth, His word, His instruction? Do you look forward each day to your time in His word and how He will reveal Himself to you? Do you hide His law in your heart, and meditate on it all the day?

There is so much to be gleaned from His word, and so much we must thoughtfully and prayerfully apply to our lives.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

How has God’s truth pierced your heart today? How will you be different as a result? May our prayer be

Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law.
Psalm 119:18

Most Perfect is the Law of God
Words from The Psalter, 1912

Most perfect is the law of God,
Restoring those that stray;
His testimony is most sure,
Proclaiming wisdom’s way.

Refrain
O how love I Thy law!
O how love I Thy law!
It is my meditation all the day.
O how love I Thy law!
O how love I Thy law!
It is my meditation all the day.

The precepts of the Lord are right;
With joy they fill the heart;
The Lord’s commandments all are pure,
And clearest light impart.

The fear of God is undefiled
And ever shall endure;
The statutes of the Lord are truth
And righteousness most pure.

They warn from ways of wickedness
Displeasing to the Lord,
And in the keeping of His Word
There is a great reward.

O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. Psalm 119:97

Thank you for sharing this Psalm. It is so good to have His truths memorized or easily accessible like this to cling to and be refreshed by.

Thanks for taking part. We teach the children a song at our Wednesday club
'Thy word have I hid in my heart
That I might not sin against Thee
Thy word have I hid
That I might not sin
Thy word have I hid in my heart'

Thank you for the reminders this post contains- we all need the word and all that it contains
