(Don't know about churches you're familiar with, but most I know of would not have the patience to sing all those stanzas! We seem to want to get a song over with in 3 or 4. Too bad.)

The ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ is so important to us as Christians. From heaven, He and God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to begin a new ministry in and through the church (Jn. 14:26; 16:7). And from heaven Christ has bestowed spiritual gifts on the church (Eph. 4:10-11).

Further, seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven, Christ ministers as our great High Priest, and heavenly Advocate and Intercessor (Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25; I Jn. 2:1). His presence there, and His understanding of our need, can give us great confidence in prayer (Heb. 4:14-16).

Finally, the Lord Jesus is presently preparing a place for us, so that we may live with Him, eternally (Jn. 14:2-3).

Just a few further thoughts. And to learn about things that happened in hymn history on any given day, I invite you to visit my daily blog, Wordwise Hymns.
